Morning Focus opened with a discussion of a historic error at the 89th Oscars which saw ‘La La Land’ named as ‘best picture’ before ‘Moonlight’ was identified as the real winner. Gavin was joined by Eoghan Doherty of Joe.ie.

Gregory Whelan was Gavin’s next guest. He’s written a submission on behalf of Inland Waterways Ireland on plans to extract water from the Parteen basin for the East and Midlands.

Gavin then heard from Tanya Ward of the Children’s Right’s Alliance who told him of long delays for counselling services for children who are victims of sexual abuse.

Cllr Pat Hayes joined the show to share concerns about the condition of the M18 where a number of accidents happened recently due to bad weather.

Sgt Joe Downey, Clare’s Crime Prevention Officer was Gavin’s next guest in studio for the weekly ‘Garda Focus’ slot.

The prospect of Ireland having an openly gay Taoiseach – if Leo Varadkar succeeds in the race to lead Fine Gael – was then discussed with Orla Howard from Kilrush. Orla was a key member of the Yes Equality Campaign.

Peter O’Hara a Humanist/Atheist then joined Gavin to talk about the Pope’s recent comments on ‘hypocritical Catholics’.

GearĂ³id O’Connell was Morning Focus’s next guest. He’s cycling the Wild Atlantic Way to raise awareness of suicide and to raise funds for Pieta House and the ‘Mind’ charity in the UK.

Colm Collins, Clare Senior Football Manager, joined the panel (Derrick Lynch and Peter O’Connell of the Clare Champion) to discuss changes at the GAA Congress over the weekend.

The show concluded with a chat with Niamh Kelly from Ballyea who’s just been crowned the Abu Dhabi Rose.
