Morning Focus 24/02/17

Morning Focus opened with a discussion of a new transatlantic service from Shannon, Cork and Dublin Airports to the east coast of the US. While there’s been a general welcome for Norwegian Air’s entry to the market, Gavin heard calls from Deputy Alan Kelly for an investigation, saying there was an attempt made to promote Dublin ahead of other airports. He also spoke with Andrew Murphy, Shannon Airport’s Managing Director.

The talk then turned to the issue of ‘sexting’, with ISPCC Director of Services Caroline O’Sullivan saying it’s becoming the norm for teens, with very serious consequences.

Louise McGuane, Founder of Chapel Gate Whiskey, then spoke to Gavin of her ‘despair’ over infrastructure for business in rural Ireland.

Gavin was then joined in studio by Sue Cave from Kilmaley, a volunteer with the Make A Wish Foundation.

The issue of the contamination of recycle bins – often deliberately – was then discussed with Caroline Walsh, Finance Director of Clare-based Clean Ireland and Chair of the Irish Waste Management Association.

The arts round-up was presented by Siobhán Mulcahy, Clare County Arts Officer.

The Friday Panel were Orla Vaughan, Bob Vernon and Gearóid Howard.

The show was round off with member of Ennis Players performing extracts from their play ‘The Colleen Bawn’ by Dion Boucicault, which opens at glór, Ennis, on Monday, February 27.
