Morning Focus began today with Adrian Kelly, Chief Fire Officer, Clare County Council who spoke about the storm alert for Storm Callum.
Storm Callum is due to bring strong winds tonight (October 11) with risk of coastal flooding along the Clare coastline and the Shannon Estuary.
We heard from Bridget Haran, President of the Irish Hair Dressing Council about the restoration of 13.5% VAT rate for hospitality services which will cripple the sector and cost jobs.
Then, Roisín Garvey, An Taisce Green Schools Officer for Clare spoke about the missed opportunity to tackle climate change in the Budget.
The second hour of the show kicked off with our regular segment ‘Parenting Advice’ with Dr Toby Sachsenmaier. This week Dr Toby tackled the topic of self-esteem in kids.

We had more storm coverage ahead of the arrival of Storm Callum from Met Éireann. Winds of up to 130kmph are set to batter the country later tonight.
Johnny Sheehan spoke to us about the ‘Spark Change in Your Community’ event which encourages sustainability. The voluntary organisation ‘The Wheel’ promotes good governance in communities.
In the final hour of Morning Focus we heard from Brendan Dunford, Burren LIFE who was live in studio to talk about receiving an honourary doctorate from NUI Galway. Others who will receive an honourary doctorate are Sharon Shannon, Catherine Corless and Helen Rochford Brennan.
After that, Clare FM’s Ryan Hanton took to the streets of Ennis to find out how courteous Clare drivers are.
John McCarthy informed us about the Team Hope shoebox appeal in Clare which donates gift-filled shoeboxes to children from some of the poorest regions of the world. The deadline this year for sending shoeboxes is November 9.
