Professor Tony Lewis, UCC, Centre for Marine and Renewable Energy on the west coast being tipped to be a renewable energy powerhouse. The 900 mega watt coal-fired power station at Moneypoint, Clare will be decommissioned between 2025 and 2030. Prof Lewis recommends a focus on wave energy which could help the local economy.

John Barron, Reagecon Founder on Reagecon’s €10 distribution deal with Chinese distributor Beijing Thorigin. The IDA-backed deal will see Reagecon partner with the Chinese distributor for the next five years.

In the second hour of Morning Focus we have a local Business panel discussion with Seán Lally, Hotel Woodstock, Ennis, Julie Moore Neylon, Wild Atlantic Opticians, Kilrush, Aoife Madden, Madden Furniture, Ennis and Orlaigh Meere, Meere Pork Products, Quin. We looked at how local businesses are doing in the run up to the Local Enterprise Awards.

After that, Michael Collins from Feakle informed us about dealing with the condition of pulmonary fibrosis after undergoing a lung transplant last year. A patient information evening for those with pulmonary fibrosis will take place tonight (November 7) at 7pm at the Temple Gate Hotel, Ennis. Speakers will include patients and medical professionals with knowledge of the condition.

For the final hour of the show we heard from one of U2’s biggest fans. James Coughlan from Ennistymon who is a barber in Kilrush has seen U2 in concert over 60 times and will attend all four of their upcoming gigs in Dublin.

Sharon Meaney, Clare Volunteer Centre and Sarah Clancy, Clare PPN were live in studio to discuss free networking and community knowledge events in Clare. Five free events will take place in Ennis, Newmarket-On-Fergus, Killaloe, Kilrush and Ennistymon and will give those attending an opportunity to learn about the host organisation and what they offer community groups. Each event will consist of three workshops dealing with understanding conflict, recruiting volunteers and making funding applications.

Paula Carroll, Clare FM Presenter, Cuimhneamh an Chláir talked to Gavin about listening events in Kilfenora and Kilkee which take place next Monday (November 12).

Morning Focus finished out with our regular ‘Ask the Vet’ item with John Underhill, Burren Vets, Ennistymon. John answered a number of listener’s animal and livestock related queries.
