Gardaí and Traffic Infrastructure Ireland motorway crews responded to the incident initially while units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Shannon station also responded.

When fire crews arrived, a short section of the dual-carriageway was closed so that the vehicle could be safely removed from the scene.

Traffic was diverted up and over junction 6 flyover to rejoin the N18 on the other side.

Once the van had been recovered from the scene, the route was fully reopened.
