Shannon Pharmacist Says No Timeline For Antibiotic Supplies To Return To Normal Levels

A Shannon pharmacist says there’s no timeframe whereby the current antibiotic shortage is expected to be resolved.

Pharmacists have been reporting a shortage in four commonly-used antibiotics, caused in part by growing concerns over Strep A.

The Irish Pharmacy Union has called for a ‘serious shortages protocol’ to allow pharmacists dispense alternative medicines to patients to deal with ongoing supply issues.

Feidhlim Hillery, member of the IPU and Shannon town pharmacist, says supply issues are unpredictable and could be solved within 24 hours or may take weeks or even months for normal stock levels to return.
