Multi Million Euro Council Consultancy Fee Spend Described As ‘Absolutely Crazy’

Multi-million euro expenditure by Clare County Council on consultancy fees is being described as ‘absolutely crazy’ by an elected representative.

A Clare FM investigation has found the local authority has spent over €21.5 million on outside expertise since 2017, with fees increasing by 25 percent last year alone.

The Council has told Clare FM it’s committed to ‘achieving the optimum value for money’ on consultants, and that outside expertise can be needed ‘where the project may be once off and may not warrant the permanent skill in house over the long term’.
