The manager of an Ennis service station fears it will take a number of weeks before the Government introduces measures to tackle the soaring cost of fuel.
It comes as the Tánaiste alluded that the Government may look at reducing excise duty on petrol and diesel, as prices hit 2 euro per litre at the pumps.

AA Ireland says every 10 cent rise in the cost of petrol or diesel adds 120 euro to the annual cost of running a car.
The Clare-based president of the Irish Road Haulage Association is to meet with Minister for Finance, Paschal Donohoe to discuss the possibility of government intervention to address the issue, with warnings that unless action is taken, the cost of everyday goods will rise as a result.
While the Ennis native is hopeful of a positive outcome from the meeting, he doesn’t believe support will come in the form of a cut to the excise duty on petrol and diesel.
Eugene Drennan says that there is the possibility of unrest if support isn’t forthcoming.
Echoing those fears is manager of Manager O’Sullivan and Hansbury garage in Ennis, Kieran Hogan.
Kieran explained that prices at the pump are dictated by the chain his garage is affiliated with and are due to increase again this evening.
At O’Sullivan Hansbury, prices have increased by 25 cent and 23 cent respectively per litre for petrol and diesel since January 1st.
Kieran isn’t hopeful of any government action in the immediate future.
