Clare’s hurlers have progressed to the Munster Hurling Cup final after dispatching Waterford in Ennis this afternoon.

The Banner welcomed Liam Cahill’s finalists to Cusack Park this afternoon for both sides’ intercounty hurling action of 2022.

The visitors held a two point advantage at the first water break but a Clare comeback, helped by a Mark Rodgers goal, saw them up by three at half time.

The second half was a much tamer affair and it seemed Clare were cruising to the end until Austin Gleeson broke through the Banner’s defence and hit the back of the net with nine minutes of regular time left on the clock.

Only two minutes later a Cathal Malone shot at goal was brilliantly saved but fell into the hands of Shane Meehan who buried the sliothar to restore the lead lost after Gleeson’s score.

The goal seemed to settle the result and Clare saw out the remaining time to take a 2-24 to 1-22 win.

Clare move on to face the winner of tomorrow’s Limerick and Kerry semi-final in the decider next weekend.
