Calls are being made for the Midwest to be renamed as the “Shannon Region”, in an effort to promote it overseas.
Sixmilebridge Fine Gael Councillor John Crowe says it would be a positive move, in light of the fact that the region’s international airport bears the Shannon name.
He believes that by working with Shannon Group, the local authority would be able to make strides in ensuring that the region is well-known around the world.
