161 staff are absent today across the UL Hospitals Group as a result of COVID-19.
The staff, who are based in Ennis and Dooradoyle, are absent due to a mixture of positive tests and the need to self-isolate, and the situation led to the cancellation of a number of procedures at both hospitals this week.
There are also a nationwide-high of 36 COVID cases across the UL Hospitals Group, with six patients in intensive care.

More testing is being conducted, and the HSE’s Chief Operations Officer Anne O’Connor says they expect more positive cases to be found among staff as a result.
