The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation has condemned what it’s described as gross overcrowding at the region’s main hospital.
University Hospital Limerick has recorded the highest ever level of overcrowding of any hospital in Ireland, with 66 patients waiting for beds yesterday morning, the equivalent of two wards.
The INMO says its members don’t accept that management are robustly managing all of the available bed capacity to meet the demands of emergency patients in need of admission.
The union’s Industrial Relations Officer, Phil Ní Sheaghdha says nurses’ ability to provide acceptable and safe care is being compromised by the ongoing overcrowding issue.
