Morning Focus – December 4th 2019

On today’s Morning Focus – Gavan spoke to the Mayor of Clare, Fianna Fail Cllr Cathal Crowe, who says new CSO data further emphasises the gap which has emerged between urban and rural communities under Fine Gael.

He had been reacting to data which revealed that one quarter of people in Clare live more than 50km from an Emergency Department, while one in three live more than 10km from a fire station.

Brian Lohan has taken up his role as the new Clare Senior Hurling Manager, with his first match now less than two weeks away. With training underway, he spoke to Clare FM’s Darren Kelly, assessing the task ahead of him and his team.

Hundreds of bingo players from all over Ireland took part in a demonstration outside Dáil Éireann on Tuesday to protest ‘crazy’ legislation which they say will shut every bingo hall in the country. They were protesting against the hugely controversial Gaming and Lotteries (Amendment) Bill which is going before the Dail today. Gavin spoke to Deirdre Doherty, Spokesperson for the Save our Bingo Campaign.

Ennis GP Dr Maire Finn was in studio to discuss Blood Pressure with Gavin. Lots of listeners got in touch with concerns and questions on this condition.

Clare FM’s Brian Flynn was in studio to tell Gavin a ‘Story Behind the Song.’ This week Brian told us about The Eagles song ‘Hotel California.’ Brian explained how the song was written and the meanings in the title song from the band’s 1977 album.

Finally John Underhill from Burren Vets came into the studio to chat with Gavin about Colic this week.
