There’s fresh calls for the reduction of speed limits in built up areas and housing estates in Clare.

The Road Safety Authority is encouraging local authorities to consider the measure, but Clare County Council says 30 Kilometre speed zones must be accompanied by a safe driving environment if it’s to effectively alter driving behavior.

The council is currently progressing a pilot traffic calming scheme at Bother na Rinne in Shannon, which is one of 3 such pilot projects being undertaken nationally in conjunction with the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport.
