The Parish Priest of Tulla insists Ash Wednesday and Lent still have relevance in modern society.

Today marks the first day of a seven-week period of reflection and prayer for Christians, in the run in to Easter.

For many, the Lenten period is still associated with sacrifice – in terms of giving up chocolate or cigarettes or the like – but in a lot of cases, this is a personal rather than religious challenge.
