Newmarket Celtic needed a late late show to earn a hard earned 3 points away to Kilrush Rangers on Sunday morning. A youthful Kilrush Rangers side battled gamely throughout this contest and made the current champions work extremely hard to create chances.
Kieran Mahoney, Ian Collins and David McCarthy were all denied by great saves from Peter O’Dwyer to keep the scores level at the break. In the second half it was more of the same but some wasteful finishing and great goalkeeping had the scores level.
David McCarthy on his return to the side had a great chance to put Newmarket in front but scuffed his effort from 8 yards out. Kilrush came close to a winner late on when a ball over the top was poked beyond the advancing Shane Cusack by Danny Clancy but rolled just wide of the post.
Just when it seemed like Kilrush would hang on for a shock result on 92 minutes David McCarthy latched on to a through ball and showed a lot of composure to go round the keeper and slot home to what could prove to be a big early goal in the title race.
Best for Kilrush Peter O’Dwyer and Trevor Clancy while Paddy Purcell and man of the match David McCarthy did best for Newmarket Celtic.

Shannon Hibs continued their great start to the Premier Division with an impressive 6-0 victory over Lifford at Riverside on Sunday. Hibs led 2-0 at the break with goals from Andy Fitzgerald and Evin Barry. A good team moved involving Liam Delaney and Gary Leahy was finished with a goal from Jack Kelly to make it 3-0.
Josh Lindsay fired in a fourth before prolific striker Gary Leahy got in on the scoring with a brace before full time. Man of the match Andy Fitzgerald.

Shannon Town had a surprisingly easy victory over an understrength Turnpike Rovers at Lees Road on Sunday morning.
Turnpike started the game well but once Shannon Town went in front they kept the pressure on for remainder of the half as they raced into a 6-0 half time lead with Colin Scanlan scoring 4 goals and Gary O’Connell and Brian O’Connor also scoring.
Both sides created some good chances in the second half with Sean Corry denied by a good save from Darren Whelan early in the half and Dermot Gannon making save after save for Turnpike throughout the half. Further goals for Shannon Town from Kieran Hackett, Ben O’Neill and Kai Khetan rounded off an impressive victory for the Shannon side.

Bridge Utd went top of the Premier Division after a good victory over Sporting Ennistymon at Lahinch on Sunday. Julio Perez had the first chance of the match for Bridge on 5 minutes but shot narrowly wide. Ciaran McMahon made a good run and had a well struck shot for Ennistymon miss the target on 15 minutes.
Jason Whyte went close for Bridge before half time but was denied by a good tackle from Michael O’Dwyer. Bridge hit the front early in the second half when Davy Lynch was fouled in the area and Kevin Kelly fired home the resultant penalty.
Ennistymon tried hard to get back in the game but could find no way past a strong Bridge defence and keeper John Mulready. Bridge wrapped up the victory in the last 10 minutes when a good break from the back was finished by Jordan Downes. Man of the match Kevin Kelly.

Ennis Dons 0-1 Inch Crusaders
Inch Crusaders continued their good start to the season with victory over Ennis Dons at Lees Road on Friday night. In a very open and entertaining game the only surprise was that only one goal was scored. Ennis Dons started well and James Rynne denied Dan Malone with a great save at his near post on 20 minutes.
Padraig Talty made a good break for Inch on 38 minutes and was fouled just outside the box. Emmet Pyne stepped up and fired an unstoppable shot to the top corner to put Inch in front. Inch had some good chances in the second half to extend their lead with Talty, Sean O’Connor and Rory Killeen all going close.
Ennis Dons threw everything at Inch in the closing stages with Cathal Clune and Sean Hillery both going close to scoring an equaliser but Inch held on for a deserved victory on the night.
