Sixmilebridge Ready To Defend The Title

The manager of the defending Clare Senior Hurling Champions feels that most players are glad to have a return to competitive hurling.

Sixmilebridge play Éire Óg this afternoon in the sides’ first Championship action of the season, throw-in is at 1pm in Cusack Park

This year’s changed championship format means that all teams will progress to Round 2, regardless of this weekend’s results, but those who lose games in a fortnight will see their seasons ended.

Following the relatively downbeat announcement of GAA president John Horan, who previously warned that no games could be held while social distancing was in place, Tim Crowe it was a bit of a surprise to be playing six weeks later.

Clare FM will have live commentary of three more of this weekend’s First Round Championship games, on Saturday Éire Óg versus Sixmilebridge at 1pm, Kilmaley against Cratloe at 7pm.

In the other games today, Whitegate play Feakle (3:30) and Clarecastle play Wolfe Tones (6:30) in Sixmilebridge , while back in Cusack Park there’s a 4 p.m. throw-in as O’Callaghan’s Mills meet Broadford.

Today, Newmarket meet Corofin at 2pm in Clarecastle while Ruan go up against Clonlara at 5pm in Newmarket.
