Clare have taken their first defeat of the National Hurling League campaign this afternoon.

The Banner made the trip to Wexford Park to face Davy Fitzgerald’s side for the first time since he stepped down as Clare’s manager in 2016.

Five Peter Duggan frees helped Clare to a two point lead at half time, with John Conlon and David McInerney also adding their name to the scoresheet.

However, the Wexford men came out strong in the second half and left Clare scoreless for the opening ten minutes, until Shane O’Donnell finally broke the deadlock.

The Banner struggled to arrest Wexford’s charge and a late consolation goal from Duggan and a few points was no answer to Wexford’s 13 second half points.

Full time in Innovate Park was Clare 1-13, Wexford 20 points.
