O’Connell the only Munster man to start Lions’ 3rd test.

Lions head coach Ian McGeechan has made 8 changes to his starting side for the 3rd test against South Africa as the Irish contingent slips from 7 to 4 for the dead rubber in Johannesburg.

David Wallace drops to the bench, Ronan O’Gara drops off the bench while Luke Fitzgerald and Brian O’Driscoll are ruled out through injury.

John Hayes is the replacement tight head prop.

The team in full is Rob Kearney full back with Shane Williams and Ugo Monye on the wings. Tommy Bowe switches to centre to partner Riki Flutey.

Stephen Jones partners Mike Phillips at half back for the 3rd time.

In the pack, Andrew Sheridan, Matthew Rees and Phil Vickery are the front row, Simon Shaw and Paul O’Connel are the locks while in the back row Joe Worsely and Martyn Williams are the flankers and Number 8 Jamie Heaslip joins Paul O Connell as the only irish men to start all 3 tests.

South Africa make 10 changes with an eye on the Tri-nations getting underway on July 25th.

Fourie du Preez, Juan Smith, Victor Matfield,Tendai Mtawarira and John Smit keep their places while Sharks duo Johann Muller and Heinrich Brussow replace suspended duo Bakkies Botha and Schalk Burger.
