Munster’s Stander Pays Tribute To Foley As He Makes Shock Retirement Announcement

CJ Stander has announced he will retire from rugby in June.

Stander won his 50th Irish cap against Scotland at Murrayfield on Sunday but has confirmed he’ll retire “from all forms of rugby” when his Munster contract expires and the end of June.

The 30-year-old says he’s made the decision because rugby has started to take “an unfair toll” on his family while in his statement.

He’s also expressed special thanks to the late Anthony Foley, and the impact that the Killaloe man had, and continues to have, on his personal and professional life.

Stander made his debut for Munster in 2012 after moving to Ireland from his native South Africa, and this weekend’s clash against England looks set to be his last in the green jersey.
