Mc Namara steps down but O Loughlin must wait until Thursday for offical ratification.

 Mike Mc Namara has stepped down as Clare hurling boss with Ger "Sparrow" O Loughlin nominated to take over.

Mc Namara’s letter of resignation was read out at a specially convened county board meeting held last night in Ennis.

Thursday’s county convention is due to offically ratify  the Clarecastle man as Mc Namara’s successor after clubs asked for time to discuss his possible appointment.

In his resignation letter,read out by Co. secretary Pat Fitzgerald, Mc Namara said that
key questions regarding responsibility remained unanswered:

The Scariff man also hinted that the removal of a squad member during 2009  and how that issue was handled had lead to the current impasse between  management and the playing panel.

Mc Namara also  expressed regret at how things had ended but felt his stepping down was the right move for hurling in  the county:

Following the acceptance of Mc Namara’s  resignation Ger "Sparrow" O Loughlin was announced as his successor.

It was also  revealed that the U21 management team had been approached  but they declined to move on to the senior job.

O Loughlin was proposed and seconded by the meeting but it was later agreed that clubs should have the the chance to discuss his appointment and report back to Thhursdays’ meeting.
