Mc Dermott names Banner Side for Waterford Clash

The Clare side to take on Waterford in the Munster championship this Sunday has been named.

Manager Micháel McDermott has decided to ring the changes following defeat against the same opposition in the National League last month.

Joe Hayes returns to take up his place in goal, while Cratloe’s Barry Duggan and Brian Carrig of Clondegad are brought into the full-back line, alongside Cooraclare’s Mark Tubridy.

Captain Gordon Kelly and Declan Callinan of Kilmurry Ibrickane retain their places in the half backs, where they’re joined by Martin McMahon also of the county champions.

O’Currys’ Ger Quinlan comes into midfield, where he’ll line out alongside Gary Brennan of Clondegad.

There are two changes then in the forwards where Diarmuid Daly of Corofin and Michael O’Shea of St Senan’s Kilkee are brought into the side.

They’re joined by David Russell, also of St Senan’s Kilkee, as well as Kilmurry Ibrickane’s Peter O’Dwyer, Liscannor’s Alan Clohessy and player of the month for March, David Tubridy of Doonbeg

Meanwhile one of Clare’s stars has outlined the opportunity presented to the banner ahead of Sunday’s Munster Championship clash with Waterford.

The winners of Sunday’s match will face Limerick in a Munster semi-final, and have the chance to avoid facing provincial giants Cork or Kerry until a potential final date.

David Tubridy of Doonbeg says he recognises the chance this presents to Clare football.
