TENNIS 

Serena Williams has won the Australian Open womens title, beating Maria Sharapova in straight sets, 6-3 7-6. 

It's a 19th Grand Slam title for Williams, and in the Open era, she's now second only to Steffi Graf with Slams won. 

 

RUGBY

The Ireland Wolfhounds' 18-9 defeat to the England Saxons last night came with added cost. 

Second row Mike McCarthy suffered a concussion before half-time, while his Leinster team-mate Fergus McFadden took a knock to the ribs. 

Craig Gilroy took a bang to the face, while Luke Fitzgerald was withdrawn before kick-off with a bug. 

Joe Schmidt is due to confirm his final Six Nations squad within the next 48 hours. 

RACING

There's a great days racing planned in Bellharbour tomorrow afternoon for the point to point meeting.

The action there gets underway at 1pm, we will be hearing more about that on this evenings Final Whistle from 5.45pm.
