Liverpool bid for Carrol turned down

Newcastle have turned down a reported £30 million pound bid from Liverpool for striker Andy Carroll, as speculation continues regarding a move by Fernando Torres to Chelsea.

There’s no been announcement yet regarding the future of the Liverpool striker, who has now taken off in a helicopter from Merseyside.

They issued a statement on Friday saying they expected him to honour his contract to 2013, even though Chelsea are prepared to pay around 50 million pounds for the Spaniard.

Jamie Carragher has been declared fit for their clash with Stoke on Wednesday,  while full back Paul Konchesky has gone out on loan to Nottingham Forest.

Elsewhere Andy Reid, Shane Long and Shay Given could all be on the move.

Reid is being linked to Blackpool, Long may move from Reading to Celtic and Given could go on loan from Manchester City to Championship side Leicester.
