Guilfoyle Voices Concerns About Hurling Sin Bin Proposal

A former Clare senior hurling captain says the trial of a sin bin in hurling will make life difficult for referees in this year’s championship series.

The GAA’s 2021 Congress voted for the motion by 61 percent to 39 percent last month, despite calls from some delegates to push it out for a Special Congress later this year.

If a referee adjudges that a defender has denied a forward a clear goalscoring opportunity within the 20 metre line, both a penalty and a sin bin will be awarded.

Clare FM hurling analyst Tommy Guilfoyle is concerned the proposal may be rushed in ahead of what’s likely to be a condensed season.
