Newmarket-on-Fergus have won the first of today’s games in the Clare Senior Hurling championship.
There was victory for Newmarket on Fergus over O’Callaghans Mills, 1-17 to 1-12 the final score.
Both goals came in the first half – Mike McGrath for the Mills and Colin Ryan for Newmarket.
It was level at the break, 1-7 apiece, but with wind advantage in the second half Newmarket pulled away and secured a first Championship win in two years.
The result means O’Callaghans Mills, last year’s semi-finalists, are into the relegation playoffs.
Also today, in the Intermediate Championship, Cratloe overcame Clarecastle 1-12 to 0-12.
