A former Clare hurling captain says it’s time to bring the long-running manager saga to an end and move on with preparations for the 2020 campaign.

Louis Mulqueen issued a statement through Clare GAA last night, formally withdrawing his name from the race to be named the next manager of the Banner’s senior hurlers.

In it, he says he is honoured and grateful to have been proposed but that he is not now in a position to allow his name to go forward.

It means Brian Lohan is the only name left to replace Donal Moloney and Gerry O’Connor.
