Sixmilebridge’s 1992 county winning hurling captain insists Ballygunner will be formidable opposition for the Clare side on Sunday.

The two clubs meet at O’Garney Park for the first time in 27 years in the Munster senior quarter-final.

The Waterford outfit suffered a 16-point defeat that day but are now an established team and current provincial champions.

John Chaplin says Ballygunner possess some of the Deise’s best players.

It’s the Gunners’ first away assignment in the Munster championship since losing to Thurles Sarsfields at the same stage three years ago.

Their passage to the last two finals came after four wins in Walsh Park.

Ballygunner’s Dessie Hutchinson says the home support will give Sixmilebridge an advantage.

Throw-in at O’Garney Park, Sixmilebridge on Sunday is 1.30pm.
