Corofin/Ruan are the county minor hurling champions for the first time ever after beating Clarecastle by 1-21 to 2-9 in Cusack Park.
The amalgamation hit the ground running going 0-11 to 0-0 clear thanks to Shane Punch, Cillian McGroary, Patrick O’Halloran, Diarmuid Cahill and Kevin Keane.
It was 0-14 to 0-1 at half-time as Oisin Casey got Clarecastle’s only first half score but the Magpies did get back into proceedings upon the restart.
Niall Brigdale finished a rebound to the net after Josh Brack forced a save from Cian O’Donoghue.
Clarecastle trailed 0-16 to 1-5 on 38 minutes before Killian O’Connor set up Diarmuid Cahill for Corofin/Ruan’s goal and another Cahill point put 12 between them entering the fnal quarter.
But 1-3 unanswered in eight minutes including Oisin Casey’s free finding the net left Clarecastle just six behind entering the final five minutes.
Not to be denied, Corofin/Ruan left nothing to chance as they got four of the last five points. Kevin Keane, Diarmuid Cahill and Shane Punch ensuring their first ever win at this grade.
