St. Joseph’s Miltown Malbay Prevail In Munster Contest Epic

St. Joseph’s Miltown Malbay are into the Munster senior club football semi-final after winning an epic contest at Hennessy Memorial Park.

David O’Brien’s team took a 1-11 to 0-11 victory after extra-time against a defiant Rathgormack team from Waterford who chased the saving goal all the way to the conclusion.

Eoin Cleary’s strike on 22 minutes gave the Clare champions the priceless goal as they led 1-4 to 0-6 at half-time.

Rathgormack went down to 14 men when Cathal Crowch was dismissed but still found their way back with two late points to level at 1-7 to 0-10 after 60 minutes.

The defining period was the opening 10 minutes of extra-time as Eoin Cleary and a Cormac Murray brace gave the hosts a three-point advantage.

And they held firm in the second period to set up a meeting with Tipperary’s Clonmel Commericals next Sunday.
