Goals from Diarmuid Fahy, Dara Nagle and Brendan Rouine left no doubt about the Banner’s qualification for the second round as they booked a Phase 2 home fixture with Cork next Wednesday.

If they get the better of the Rebels, who were 16 points the wrong side of Kerry the previous evening, Clare will be into a third consecutive provincial decider.

After Shane Meehan and Tipperary’s Kyle Shelly traded early points, Fahy’s goal on five minutes gave Clare a 1-1 to 0-1 lead.

And with Meehan, Jamie Stack and Cillian McGroary adding white flags along with Nagle’s three-pointer on 23 minutes, Clare held a 2-6 to 0-2 interval lead.

Tipperary shared the spoils in the early stages of the second half but Meehan and Conor Hassett preserved the Banner’s double-digit advantage before Rouine and Meehan made it 2-10 to 0-4 entering the final quarter.

Liam McCormack, Ben Comerford and Conor Shanahan added to Tipperary’s tally but their cause was in vain – Rouine finished a superb team effort for the third goal eight minutes from time.

McGroary and Conor Meenaghan concluded Clare’s account setting up an eagerly anticipated tie with Cork in seven days’ time.
