Further Discussions Planned On Football Rule Changes

Changes to the rules of gaelic football are to be reviewed in January, after their initial use in the pre-season provincial competitions.

The new rules include a sin bin instead of the black card, and an attacking mark inside the 45 metre line, but it’s the new limit of three on the number of consecutive hand passes that has angered members of the GPA.

They’re unhappy at plans to trial the rules during next year’s League, and yesterday met with GAA officials including President John Horan.

The changes will be further discussed with Ard Chomhairle on January 19th, before the Allianz Leagues.

Despite the controversy, Clare FM analyst Joe Garry said earlier this week that he is hopeful the will encourage more attacking play in Gaelic football.
