There were victories for Inagh/Kilnamona and Clonlara in the opening night’s action in this year’s Clare Senior Hurling Championship.

In Sixmilebridge, Clonlara overcame Newmarket-on-Fergus in a tight affair.

Playing with the wind in the first half, Clonlara led by two points at the break, 0-11 to 1-06 and after the break, Newmarket fought back and led inside the last ten minutes.

But after Clonlara levelled matters, Michael O’Loughlin scored two points in the last few minutes, and delivering a win for Clonlara.

Inagh/Kilnamona, meanwhile, had a more comfortable time against Clooney-Quin at Cusack Park.

They led by ten points at half-time, after goals from Evan McNamara and Aidan McCarthy, and though Clooney-Quin upped their game in the second half, Inagh/Kilnamona were never threatened and won 2-17 to 0-14.

There were three games last night in the Intermediate Championship, meanwhile.

St. Joseph’s Doora/Barefield beat Smith O’Briens 1-20 to 1-15.

Tulla overcame Scarriff 1-17 to 2-11, and Bodyke beat Killanena 2-17 to 1-15.

Action continues in both competitions across the weekend, with more action on Saturday.
