Ennis Rugby Club have won the Munster Under 18 Cup Final.

Ennis defeated Garryowen in a nail-biter at Thomond Park, winning 27-26.

A tight opening portion to the game was blown open when Ben Moloney’s intercept try gave Garryowen an 8-6 lead, and their second try from Derry Gleeson helped them to a 13-6 lead at the break.

A further penalty put them in front by ten, while David McNamara for Ennis and Gleeson for Garryowen then swapped converted tries.

Alan Culligan then nipped in for a try off a five-metre scrum, before Garryowen added three more points, and then Zack Whelehan scored the crucial try that put Ennis in front, thanks to another conversion from David Mescall.

Garryowen piled on the pressure, with Harry Byrne missing two chances to kick Garryowen back in front, but the Clare side held on for that narrow win.

Earlier, on a day of double joy for Ennis, they also won the North Munster Under 15 Cup title.

Tony Butler was among the try scorers for the Clare side as they beat Young MunsterĀ in the decider.

The final score was 17-11.
