Davy Fitzgerald faces the prospect of an eight-week sideline ban after confronting the referee during yesterday’s Allianz Hurling League semi-final loss to Tipperary.

The Wexford manager took to the field during the game to remonstrate with Diarmuid Kirwan, and also clashed with a number of Tipperary players.

Such an offence carries an eight-week ban – if the incident is included in the match report.

That would mean Fitzgerald would be barred from the sidelines for their Leinster quarter-final against a round-robin qualifier, but the ban would expire the night before a potential semi-final with Kilkenny.
