Colm Collins and the Clare footballers have been dealt an injury blow ahead of the start of the National Football League.

Eoin Cleary, the Banner’s top scorer, is set to miss the start of the competition after undergoing surgery on his hand.

The Clare People reports that the St. Joseph’s Miltown Malbay man faces a “lengthy spell” out of action, and that he will undergo rehabilitation for a number of months.

Clare will begin the new season on January 6th with a game away to Waterford, before opening their league campaign with the high-profile visit of Donegal to Ennis at the end of the month.
