Clare win Munster camogie title

Clare Senior Camogie team bridged a 66 year gap last night in The Ragg when they claimed the Munster Senior Camogie title over Cork on a final scoreline of Clare 0-9 Cork 0-7.

In wet miserable conditions, Cork had the opening score and both sides traded points for the opening 20 minutes, Naomi Carroll with 2 points and Claire McMahon with a free, before  McMahon put Clare in front in the 23rd minute with a point from play, a lead which Clare did not relinquish.

Clare defended strenuously and went in at the break with that single point lead,0-04 to 0-03

Corks Gemma O’Connor levelled matters at the restart before McMahon & Susan Fahy both pointed for the Banner. O’Connor & Katriona Mackey both converted frees to see the teams draw level for the 4th time by the 38th minute.

 Deirdre Murphy  put daylight between the sides with a free in the 52nd minute and 2 minutes later she once again split the posts. Carolyn Motherway pulled 1 back for Cork but Murphy  pointed from a free for the final score of the game in the 62nd minute.

Joint Clare Captains Fiona Lafferty & Susan Vaughan accepted the Cup from Munster Vice Chairman James Moynihan, while Clares Naomi Carroll also picked up the trophy for player of the game.
