Clare Suffer Second Defeat In NFL Division Two

Clare have suffered a 0-18 to 1-10 loss against Fermanagh in the NFL Division Two.

The sides were deadlocked after the opening 15 minutes, with Fermanagh opening the scoring before David Tubridy & Eoin Cleary put Clare ahead only to see the home side leveling it up once more.

Clare took the lead once more through a Tubridy free in the 20th minute, but three in a row for Fermanagh saw them lead 0-5 to 0-3 with eight minutes to go to half time.

Eoin Cleary pointed a free after good work from Keelan Sexton to cut the gap to the minimum, but Eddie Courtney restored Fermanagh’s two point lead on the half hour mark.

Cleary pointed another two in a row to see the game tied at 0-6 each as the half time whistle loomed, but a point from Quigley saw the home side keep their noses in front before Ryan Jones put them two ahead once more.

Keelan Sexton was fouled again, with Cleary popping over the free to leave the half time score Fermanagh 0-8 Clare 0-7.

The home side stretched their lead with the first two attacks of the second half to go ahead by 0-10 to 0-7.

Gordon Kelly was the Banner’s saviour as he cleared a goal bound effort out for a “45 which was converted to leave the gap at four.

Jamie Malone went on one of his trademark runs to set up Keelan Sexton for a goal in the 45th minute as the Kilmurry Ibrickane man punched to the net to cut the gap back to the minimum as Fermanagh led 0-11 to 1-7.

Sexton was then fouled and David Tubridy stepped up to level the game from a free after 48 mins.

The home side responded once more with the next four points to go back in front by 0-15 to 1-8 midway through the second half.

Another point from Sean Quigley from a “45 saw Fermanagh lead 0-16 to 1-8 with ten minutes to go, before Jamie Malone pointed for Clare.

Fermanagh then hit another two in a row before Tubridy landed a “45 to leave it Fermanagh 0-18 Clare 1-10 at full time.

Elsewhere in Division 2, second placed Galway came from 0-4 down to beat Derry by 5-15 to 2-15 at Tuam Stadium.

It finished all square at Pairc Ui Rinn, Cork 0-18 Meath 1-15.
