Clare Minors Advance In Munster Football Championship

Clare have qualified for the Phase One Final of the Munster Minor Football Championship.

Dermot Coughlan’s team beat Tipperary 1-10 to 0-6 yesterday evening to advance to the next round.

In the other game at Dungarvan, Waterford drew with Limerick 1-7 to 0-10.

A slow start led to a flourishing finish but Clare won’t mind as they qualified for the Phase 1 Final of the Munster Minor Football Championship.

This victory coupled with Waterford’s draw with Limerick means the Banner will compete for the Darrel Darcy Cup on Tuesday, 7th May. It could be Tipperary who made the better start here after 20 scoreless minutes.

Clare built up wides but Tipperary got off the mark. Kyle Shelly, marshalled by Michéal Garry, finally got a score and two Paddy Creedon made it 0-3 to 0-0.

On 29 minutes, Clare finally made their mark through Eoin Talty’s goal before Conor Hassett and Shane Meehan made it 1-2 to 0-3 at half-time. A Shane Meehan triple, Jamie Stack and Eoin Talty left it 1-7 to 0-5 with 10 minutes remaining.

Tipperary’s concentration and discipline deserted them. Shane Meehan, Jamie Stack, Stephen Casey concluded the Banner’s account. Clare travel to Waterford next Wednesday before facing the decider two weeks later.
