Clare have opened their campaign in Division 2 the Lidl Ladies Football National League with a 4-8 to 1-17 draw against Kerry.

The Banner were regarded as outsiders by many heading into today’s game in Doonbeg, but a goal blitz in the first half was crucial as they raced into an eight-point half-time lead.

3-7 to 0-8 was the score here – Grainne Nolan, Tara Kelly and Fidelma Marrinan netted for the Banner, while Nolan scored four points, Marrinan two and Roisín Looney scored their points.

James Murrihy’s side only added 1-1 to their tally after the break – Laurie Ryan scored the goal, while Eimear Keane added a point.

However, Kerry were largely on top here, having quickly reduced Clare’s lead at the start of the half, courtesy of Megan O’Connor.

However, Clare held onto their lead until the 32nd minute of the second half when Sarah Houlihan finally levelled matters for the Kingdom.

It finished 4-8 Kerry 1-17.
