Clare And Derry Finish Level In National Football League Division Two Opener

Clare had to settle for a share of the spoils in their National Football League Division 2 opener against Derry in Celtic Park.

The 1-8 to 0-11 scoreline sees Colm Collins side get their first points of the campaign on the board, with Jamie Malone finding the net for the Banner in the second half.

Clare trailed by 0-6 to 0-5 at the break having played against a strong breeze in the opening half.

Malone pounced in the square to palm the ball to the net soon after the restart, but the home side drew level soon after.

The sides traded scores during the 5 minutes of added time at the end of the game, with Ciaran Russell looking like he had stolen victory for the Banner before the last kick of the game saw Derry draw level.

Joe Hayes pulled off some brilliant saves to keep Clare in the game, denying Derry a green flag on a number of occasions.

Clare had opportunites to win the game, and will rue 15 wides over the 75 minutes, along with two glorious goal chances which they left behind.

Up next for the Banner is a home clash with Down in Cusack Park next weekend.
