St. Breckan’s have beaten Cooraclare in the last of the First Round games of the Clare senior football championship

Last season’s intermediate champions held a one-point half-time lead, 0-4 to 0-3, but the game exploded into life in the second half.

First, Kieran O’Donoghue scored a goal for Cooraclare in the first minute, before Breckan’s scored their own goal courtesy of Joe McGann. That came moments after Cooraclare felt they should have been awarded a free.

Jack Morrissey then scored a goal from a penalty for Cooraclare, before Jack Sheedy netted a late winning goal for Breckan’s. He had been gifted possession after a quick Cooraclare free was kicked straight to him, with goalkeeper Killian Roche having already run forward to offer an attacking option. It left Sheedy the simple task of scoring into an empty net.

For Cooraclare, a late Pearse Lillis effort for goal was tipped over the bar, and Breckan’s held on to win 2-8 to 2-6.
