A brilliant first half from Clare saw them lead by 0-7 to 0-4 at the break, with Shane McGrath instrumental with two points. Alan Smith was the scorer in chief for Kildare, with three of his sides four points. Martin McMahon, Enda Coughlan, David Tubridy, Rory Donnelly and Podge Collins along with McGrath all pointed for Clare, and they were well worth their half time lead.

Two more from Smith either side of a Gary Brennan point left the score at 0-8 to 0-6 early in the second half, but four in a row for Clare, three from Tubridy and one from Brennan saw them lead by 0-12 to 0-6 after 45 minutes.

That would be Clare's last score, as Kildare hit the next seven in a row to steal victory and passage to the final round of qualifiers.

For Clare, they can now look forward to Division Three football in 2015 having made real progress this year.
