Banner Bows Out After Defeat To Tipperary

Clare have been knocked out of the All Ireland Hurling Championship after defeat to Tipperary in Pairc Ui Chaoimh this afternoon.

The Banner made two dramatic recoveries throughout the 70 minutes but it was the Premier who kept control of the game, eventually taking a three point win.

Tipperary opened up a large six point lead in the first twenty minutes, until two quick goals from Aaron Cunningham equaled the sides and kept Clare in the game.

Clare’s tally of wides went into double figures before half-time, with five points separating the two sides.

The points tally of both teams ticked over as the second half went on, but it was in the closing minutes that Clare rushed to knock over six points to close the gap to one.

A Clare goal would have been crucial, but it didn’t come until the Premier had extended the gap to six, meaning Cathal McInerney’s green-flag counted only as consolation.

Full time in the Quarter Final saw Tipperary 0-28, Clare 3-16 (25).
