Sunday Sports Round-Up

Clare have kept up their 100% start to the season with a dramatic win over Leitrim in the National Football League today.

The final score at Cusack Park in Ennis was 2-12 to 0-17 points in favour of the Banner.

Clare trailed by four points at half time, 0-9 to 0-5, but two fortunate goals from Barry Toner and Chris Dunning brought them back into the game before a late point from David Tubridy clinched the crucial two points for the Banner.

Clare will continue their quest for promotion away to London next week.

 

Saturday Sports Round-Up

Starting with hurling and Claremen have shone brightly for NUI Galway as they've captured the Fitzgibbon Cup for the first time in 30 years following a dramatic win over Waterford IT

NUIG were eight points down at one stage in the second half but fought back to force extra time, where they again trailed.

However they fought back to level matters before a late point from Clonlara's John Conlon gave them the win. 

The final score at Pearse Stadium was 1-17 to 1-16.

Clare team set to be named for Leitrim clash this evening

The Clare senior football side will be named this evening ahead of this Sunday's clash with Leitrim in Cusack park.

Clare will looking to sustain their challenge for promotion from Divison 4 this weekend when facing the Connacht side having already claimed wins in their opening two games agisnt Wicklow and Kilkenny respectivley.

The county side will be without their KIB contingent for the match as they continue their preparations for the All Ireland club final on March 17th.

Clare side set to up tempo ahead of Wexford Clash

 

Despite their 4 point win over Laois on Sunday Clare forward Fergal Lynch admits the side will have to improve ahead of the clash with Wexford in 2 weeks time.

The half forward has been part of Clare's two successive wins in the national hurling league this year and believes  Clare will face a tough test against the Lenister outfit.

Clare are at home to the men from the South East in 2 weeks time and  Lynch thinks  the game will be a good test of where the Munster side  are at:

 

 
 

Sunday sports round up.

Starting with gaa  and the Clare hurlers have won their second game of the National Hurling league but only just after they emerged from Portlaoise with a 2-12 to 1-11 win today.

Clare led at half time by 1-5 to 6 points but the sides were level at 1-9 each entering the final 10 minutes before Alan
Markham struck for a goal which gave Clare the breathing space required to go on to claim victory.
 
Elsewhere in Division Two:

Wexford beat Down by  2-23  to 1-12  and there was also wins for Kildare and Carlow.

Saturday round up

Starting with Gaa and Eire Og have continued their 100% start to the new sseason with a 1-8 to 8 point win over Cooraclare today in the Cusack Cup.

The Ennis side trailed at half time but a Niall Daly goal after 15 minutes of the second half pushed them onto victory.

Meanwhile Shannon Gaels recorded a 3-6 to 8 point win over St Josephs Miltown while St seans Kilkee suffered their second defeat of the year as they lost to Liscannor.

Doonbeg also recorded a win when they beat Clondegad by 15 points to 1-7.

Sparrow Makes One Change For Laois Clash

Ger O'Loughlin has made one change to the Clare team to take on Laois in the National league this Sunday.

Clonlara's Nicky O'Connell steps out of the team in favour of James Mcinerny of Newmarket-on-Fergus.  McInerney will play at half back, with captain Brian O'Connell switching into midfield.

The team in full sees Philip Brennan of Tulla starting in goals.

NUI Galway Cruise Into Fitzgibbon semi-finals

There's been joy for NUIG in the Fitzgibbon Cup, as the Galway side has beaten St Patrick's College to reach the semi-finals of the competition.

NUI Galway lead by three points at half-time, but they pulled away in the second half with a strong performance and ran out winners in a final score line of 1-24 to 1-12.

NUI Galway will now play either Davy Fitzgerald's Limerick IT or UCD in the semi-final.
