Seamus McGuinness's interdisciplinary art practice is deeply rooted in life. It involves research, durational social intervention, cloth, interactive installations, public conversations and collective democratic acts. In 2010 he was awarded a PhD for the Lived Lives Project, which emerged from an inter-disciplinary research platform with psychiatrist and scientist Prof. Kevin Malone, conducted within the School of Medicine, University College Dublin. By working closely with 42 suicide bereaved families and placing them within an art process, collectively they co-created, produced and curated private their stories of loss and pain into the public domain. This multidisciplinary project values participatory contributions and experiences. It flows through various institutional spaces, building sustainable partnerships, connecting with communities, adapting and becomes new to site, articulating and questioning in a collaborative manner the ominous presence of stigma and youth suicide in Ireland. Currently McGuinness is The Craig Dobbin Newman Fellow, School of Medicine, University College Dublin. Seamus is based in Co. Clare.
