Schools Face Challenges In Re-Opening Due To COVID-19

The extent of the challenges posed to Clare schools by the coronavirus have been laid bare by new class size statistics.

Department of Education data shows nearly a fifth of Clare’s primary school students – 2,581 in total, across 32 different schools here – are in classes of at least thirty pupils.

While this is ordinarilly a significant problem, it’s an even bigger issue now as social distancing will be prove very difficult in those schools when they return later this year.

On Monday’s Morning Focus, Gavin discussed the issue with principals Donal O’hAineféin of Gaelscoil Mhichíl Chíosóg in Ennis, and Fergal Lynch of Scoil na Mainstreach in Quin.
