Pyrite Destroys Clare Homes

Pyrite Pyrite is a very common mineral that is present in many sedimentary rocks. Subject to certain conditions, pyrite is problematic in confined construction, such as under floor filling and bridge embankments. This is due to a chemical reaction that can cause pyritic backfill to swell. Pyrite can lead to devastating cracks in homes both internally and externally – with owners often spending tens of thousands trying to remedy the damage.

Dr. Martina Cleary from Crusheen first started noticing problems with her home in 2019 and she has since established the Clare Pyrite Action Group. Geraldine Kennedy from Parteen’s problems started in the early 2000’s and have advanced greatly.

On Monday’s Morning Focus, Gavin Grace spoke to both women, who are calling for Clare to be included in the Pyrite Remediation Programme and receive redress.
