Pandemic Sparks Rise In Antidepressants

An extra 7million antidepressant drug tablets were dispensed in the first nine months of last year in comparison to the same period in 2019.

In total, more than 170 million antidepressant drug tablets were provided in those months.

The figures reveal a surge in patients requiring medication for depression, stress and anxiety during the pandemic.

Additionally, GP’s are warning that they’ve been unable to refer patients to psychology services since the pandemic began as doctors have been redeployed to help with Covid testing.
