Mary Crawford On Plans To Commemorate Vice-Commandant of the Mid Clare Brigade, Martin Devitt

On Morning Focus, Mary Crawford, who is Chairperson of the Mid Clare Brigade Commemoration Group, outlined their plans to commemorate the highest-ranking IRA officer to be killed in Clare during the War of Independence.

Vice-Commandant of the Mid Clare Brigade, Martin Devitt was shot dead during a shoot-out with the RIC on February 24th 1920. A commemorative event in Ennistymon this Sunday will be attended by Mary O’Rourke, and will include music by Sharon Shannon and family.
